Sending My New Writer to Check out Lapa Brazilian in Freo

By Foodie Cravings @foodiecravings

I’m pretty excited to share that I have a couple of new writers who’ll be helping me blog and eat through Perth. New writer Karina’s first blogging gig was to eat her way through an endless feast at Lapa Brazilian Restaurant‘s launch in Fremantle last week. This is how Karina went!

From what I knew about Brazil I was expecting lots of succulent skewered meat and a Carnivale like atmosphere, which is exactly what Lapa is all about. The “Endless Feast” costs $50 per head for which you are offered an endless supply of 16 different types of barbecued meats along with a range of pastas, and sides (excluding drinks). There is also an a la carte menu available (for those who don’t want to eat endless amounts of food) which offers a larger variety of meals, including vegetarian meals. The modern industrial style décor gave the restaurant a casual backyard like feeling; little did we know that it would shortly be transformed into a Brazilian barbecue fiesta!

The night started off with drinks and a serving of Brazilian cheese balls. Gooey elastic cheese encapsulated by warm soft bread delighted our tastebuds and were the perfect introduction for the night.

The party really started moments later when the first waiters brought out the sides dishes to be accompanied with the barbecued meat to come. My favorite of the sides were the Bananinha Frita (banana fritters), the bananas were crumbed perfectly and were soft and delicious. What made the banana’s such a beautiful accompaniment for the meat was the slight, but not overwhelming, sweetness of the banana. I thought they were so delicious that I had to order seconds and thirds!

Though the crumbled banana fritters were my favourite, the main attraction was undeniably the barbecued meat. The Passadores looked highly skilled as they carried large skewers of meat around to each table, carefully carving pieces for each person. The meat was cooked as close to perfection as could be, and the flavours were exotic and bold. A true representation of Brazilian style. A must try of the meat selection were the Barbecued chicken hearts, though it may not sound too appealing, it tastes absolutely delicious, absolutely no wonder that it is such a huge Brazilian delicacy.

The night ended with an amazing display of Brazilian music and dance, which Lapa is proud to present most weekends. If the food hadn’t already done so, the performance definitely made you feel as if you were in Brazil celebrating at the Carnivale with your friends. The interactive nature of performance allowed for people to join and really get into the Brazilian spirit.

The Lapa Brazilian Barbecue experience was truly magnificent and filled with much love. Next time I am sure to bring along a lot of meat loving family and friends as I am sure they would truly enjoy the excellent service and the delicious food.
