REWIND: The Soup Dragons - 'Mother Universe'The music world is full of injustices. One example is how this superb band from the late 80s/early 90s are only remembered by most people for their cover version of The Rolling Stones song 'I'm Free', when their other material was of a much higher quality. Yes, I'm talking about The Soup Dragons, who in my opinion were easily as good as any of the other groups from the baggy era. They formed in the Scottish town of Bellshill in the mid 80s, and were named after a character in the 70s kid's show The Clangers. The frontman and songwriter Sean Dickson went on to form The High Fidelity, who were huge favourites of mine in the late 90s and early 2000s. And it was Dickson's work in The High Fidelity that led me to 'Lovegod', the second Soup Dragons LP. I picked up a vinyl copy of this superb album from 1990 a while ago, and couldn't stop playing it. I am planning an extensive article on the music of The High Fidelity, which will hopefully include an interview with Sean himself, who now works as a DJ, producer and remixer under the alias HiFi Sean...
