REWIND: Skinnerbox - 'Jump Dung'

REWIND: Skinnerbox - 'Jump Dung'A band who I discovered during the days when I used to listen to nothing but punk, reggae and ska. I first heard Skinnerbox on a Hellcat Records compilation entitled 'Give Em The Boot', and at some point in the mid 2000s I decided to download a copy of their 'Special Wild' compilation, which features the group's work from 1989 to 1994. And that is where this irresistible slice of dancehall ska is lifted from. Skinnerbox are led by the renowned King Django, a highly influential American bandleader, singer, songwriter, arranger, engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is known to be a musical jack of all trades, creating a sound informed by ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, dancehall, rhythm and blues, and soul. Other influences in his music include traditional jazz, swing, klezmer, hardcore/punk rock, hip-hop and electronica. As well as leading Skinnerbox, King Django (real name Jeff Baker) also fronts the Stubborn Allstars (who feature musicians signed to Django's own Stubborn Records) and The King Django Band.
