Story: Renfield starts when Count Dracula’s (Cage) assistant Renfield (Hoult) is helping him relocate again. This time they move to New Orleans. Elsewhere, police officer Rebecca (Awkwafina) is trying to bring down Tedward Lobo (Schwartz) and his family’s criminal business.

When Renfield learns that he doesn’t have to help with Dracula’s evil plan, he starts working with Rebecca. However, Dracula ends up working with the Lobo family, as the two sides go into battle.

Verdict on Renfield

Renfield is a horror comedy following Dracula’s long-suffering assistant that gets a chance to redeem his sins. He finds himself in the middle of a drug war that could see him clear his name on his conscience.

This is a movie filled with gore and blood splatter. It completely understands the type of movie it needs to be to bring the added comedy into the world. There is a discussion about how being controlled can make life more difficult and Renfield has felt this for decades. It also gets to look at the deeper world of criminal activities that could be similar to the problems caused by Dracula. Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage are both delightful to watch as is Awkwafina and her ability to bring comedy to the table. Nothing is held back in this movie and by the end, you will have laughed along the way.

Final Thoughts – Renfield is a blast of a horror comedy.
