Recipes for Free: Homemade Chai Spice Mix + Classic Chai Black Tea

Spicy Chai IIIThere’s nothing like a steaming hot cup of tea to soothe the mind, body, and soul as the autumn air becomes brisk and crisp. Warm cinnamon, toasty cardamon, and spicy peppercorn make up this A+mazing chai spice. A quick stovetop toasting and this chai is just what you need to spice up your black, vanilla, or orange tea. Add a splash of milk + ice for the perfect accompaniment to a gluten free apple spice donut.

Homemade Chai Spice Mix
5-6 cinnamon sticks, broken
4 tablespoons whole cloves
2 tablespoons black peppercorns
4 tablespoons ground cardamon
2 tablespoons nutmeg
4 tablespoons ground ginger
1.    Roast all spices in a dry cast iron skillet for 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat allow to cool.
2.    Combine in a coffee grinder or processor and blend into a fine powder. Store spice in an airtight container

Chai Black Tea
1+1/2 cup hot boiling hot water
1/4 teaspoon chai spice mix
1 black tea bag
4-5 drops of pure stevia extract or 2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons non-dairy milk
Steep black tea and chai spice mix for 4 minutes. Discard tea bag, add sweetener and milk.
