Raw Kerala Banana Halwa

If you've ever walked through the streets of Kerala, particularly northern Kerala, you'll find little sweet shops tucked away in between bigger stores. These shops display large colorful blocks of translucent halwa, in all colors of the rainbow! Halwa is a pretty big deal here, and are made from all kinds of fruit, dry fruit or a mix of both. Today, we bring you a halwa recipe that'll remind you of Kerala - a Kerala Banana Halwa. If you think this is going to be a tedious process, you're mistaken - this is a super easy recipe to make and you'll want to keep making it!

Ingredients:

Method:

1. Cook the Raw Kerala Banana Powder with jaggery syrup, whisking so that it's smooth. Add ghee and stir till it's completely incorporated. Meanwhile, fry the nuts in ghee.

2. Continue to cook on a low flame. As the mixture starts thickening, stir in the nuts & cardamom powder.

3. When the halwa is sufficiently thick, spread it on a flat plate and let it cool. Once set, cut it into squares. If you like you can garnish with a few strands of saffron before leaving it to set.
