Random Thoughts True Blood Season 7.07 – “May Be The Last Time”

RANDOMTHOUGHTS2

It’s so hard for me to grasp that the season is almost over and we now have only three episodes to go before True Blood is over forever. While I’m sad, I’m glad that these last few episodes are starting to flow together resulting in a meaningful end to the series. Below are my random thoughts about True Blood Episode 7.07 titled, “May Be The Last Time.”

The main story lines this season seem to be

  • Sarah is the Cure – Eric and Pam’s search for Sarah Newlin

and

  • Reunited for what may be the last time 0 Bill and Sookie

While there are other themes this season, none compare for me to these top two so, I begin my random thoughts with these:

Sarah is the Cure!

Eric and Pam are still in pursuit of Sarah Newlin, but this week the tide has turned a bit. In the first scene of the episode, we find Sarah’s sister, Amber in silver chains and Eric, Pam and Mr. Gus are trying to get her to tell them where Sarah is and how she has cured her of her Hep-V. Amber continues to insist that her sister’s name is no longer Sarah, but Noomi and that she is the cure.  Eric still wants to know where she is and he attempts again to get Amber to tell him, but when she ultimately refuses, in a typical Eric rage, he stakes her and she explodes into a pile of goo. Pam is furious saying that he killed the one person who knows where Sarah is and both Pam and Mr. Gus are aghast at Eric’s impatience.

Later, Pam chastises Eric for this asking him, “do you want to die?”  She says, “this isn’t about capture and kill anymore.”  Just then, Mr. Gus walks in with a business proposition.  He says, “let’s capture her and synthesize her blood as ‘New Blood.’” He says he can find her by using Japanese intelligence. He wants to eradicate Hep-V and asks Eric to be his spokesperson. Eric first says no, but when he hears how much money he will make, he changes his tune. They agree to meet when night falls and after Mr Gus has found Sarah. Pam and Eric awake late and think that Mr. Gus has gone without them, but they find him waiting for them outside Amber’s front door ready to get moving. The Japanese have found Sarah’s location at the Fellowship of the Sun camp and we see Eric, Pam, Mr. Gus and his crew arrive ready to confront her. However, we’ll have to wait though until the next episode to see if they are able to capture her because that was the last scene of this story line in this episode.

Reunited for what “may be the last time!”

Bill is being, shall we say “hovered over” by Sookie and Jessica. They are very concerned about him and want to help. Sookie especially feels responsible for his plight since she thinks that it was her faery blood that has infected him and made the Hep-V move so quickly through his body.  While he and Jess are asleep, Sookie calls on Dr. Ludwig to come over and see if she can help to heal Bill. Unfortunately, as soon as she learns that Sookie is related to Niall Brigant, she takes a quick exit out of fear. Sookie then asks for help from her faery grandfather, Niall who appears and says he will help her, but doesn’t want her to be with Bill Compton. He enables Sookie to see the birth of Bill’s first child, but Sookie doesn’t see the significance to the current situation.  Neither do I frankly, but hopefully, we’ll understand later. Finally Naill vanishes having not given Sookie the miracle she seeks and so she walks home. When night falls she runs from her home to Bill’s house, just like in Season 1 of the series and, as Bill opens the door to her, she announces that she is not going to leave him and will stay with him until the very end.

The flashbacks: As Bill and Jessica go to sleep for the day, Bill starts to remember his past life and how his marriage to Caroline began. While he didn’t appear to be in favor of the marriage originally, as soon as he meets Caroline, it looks like he changes his mind.We are flashed back to before the Civil War when Bill meets his future wife, Caroline. At first Bill was not too anxious; he wanted to travel and see the world before he got married, but after he met Caroline, that all appears to have changed.

Other storylines

Violet’s Vengeance:

Adilyn and Wade think that Violet is helping them, but we all know that’s not true and what is really happening is that Violet is seeking vengeance for what she considers as Jason and Jessica’s betrayal when the made love during the last episode. Violet offers to help the Adilyn and Wade hide from their parents and takes them to her home where she puts them in a sex dungeon with all kinds of sex toys and paraphernalia. The teens are innocents and don’t have a clue what to do with it all; they admit to each other that they were both virgins before they first coupled and don’t use the sex toys.

During this time, Holly and Andy are looking all over for them. Andy even calls Jessica hoping that she might have felt Adilyn, but she hasn’t.  At least Andy knows that Adilyn is OK by this. Andy and Holly even travel to Oklahoma in pursuit of the young teens and arrive at Holly’s ex-husband’s home but, sadly find the home empty. Andy blames himself because of the anger he showed toward Wade.

Violet leaves Adilyn and Wade to their own devices but returns the next evening and becomes her evil self by capturing them presumably to hold them prisoner and lure Jessica to come save Adilyn. At the end of the episode we see Jessica sense Adilyn is in trouble and rush out of the Compton house.

Arlene’s new love interest Keith

Arlene is leaving work, or so she thinks when she runs into Keith who says he has come to see her home. She tries to reason with him that they aren’t good fore each other saying, “What are you 25 years old?” and he replies,”I’m 515 years old.”  With the age thing settled, she still continues to argue saying that she is not a “fangbanger” but he kisses her and one thing leads to another and before you know it they’re on the pool table having sex. Just as Arlene is about to climax, she wakes up and realizes that it was all a dream.

Then, later in the episode, Keith shows up at the bar again, but this time it’s not a dream. Arlene tries to put him off saying that she can’t have sex with him because she is Hep-V positive. So, instead they simply dance together.

Hoyt’s return and Jason’s interest in Bridget

Hoyt Fortenberry returns to Bon Temps to identify and see his mother’s body. Having been glamoured (at his request) by Jessica before he left Bon Temps over a year ago, Hoyt has no recollection of Jason or his relationship with Jessica. When Hoyt arrives with his new girlfriend, Bridget, he goes to the one place he knows, Merlotte’s, but now finds out that it’s called “Bellefleur’s Bar & Grill.” He and Bridget hook up with Jason and Jason seems to immediately take a shine to Bridget but tries not to show it.  Hoyt identifies his mother and Bridget asks Jason to comfort Hoyt by telling him what happened.  Jason proceeds to tell Hoyt that his mother was a good person instead of the truth that she was one of the vigilantes who tried to kill his ex-girlfriend and others. We will presumably see more of Hoyt in the next episode. It’s good to see him back in town.

WTF is up with nothing for Sam?

Sam is now the Mayor of the town and had a lot to do in the first few episodes until the Hep-V vamps were caught. However, since then there has been little sign of Sam. Nicole told him in the last episode that she plans to leave town and wants Sam to come with her. In this episode, and Sam’s only scene,  he speaks to Arlene asking for her advice as to whether he should leave or stay. Arlene had some sane advice for him, but we don’t yet now what Sam will do.

Returning Cast members

In this week’s episode we had several previous cast members return and it was great to see them. I love the way the writer’s feel a need to show us our favorite former cast members again which, “may be the last time.” I loved Steve Newlin when he confronted Sarah with all the men she slept with, and seeing Hoyt Fortenberry return to town with his new girlfriend from Alaska made me glad for his success. Naill Brigant was called by Sookie but didn’t seem to help her much and Dr. Ludwig, which we always love to see, wasn’t around long because she made a quick exit as soon as she heard that Sookie was related to Naill.

While I didn’t find this episode to be as fulfilling as the previous two, I still liked it. Much of the time was spent reminiscing, seeing flashbacks, and laying down what is to come, making me look forward to what’s going to transpire in the final three episodes of the season.
