Pro Hacks for Keeping Your Kitchen Clean

By Marialiberati

Often the hardest part of getting something done is knowing where to start. Home kitchens are one of those places as they require not only a lot of time and effort but critical thinking. How so? Kitchens are notorious for having little secret corners and hard-to-reach areas that people wish they could clean on a daily basis. The following can help you to keep your home kitchen extra clean.

Pick a Schedule

Speak with any mother, and they will tell you that kitchens need to be cleaned every day. This, however, is not as easy to do in an age where most of us need to work forty hours a week or more. If you're a single person, then you might not have to clean your kitchen very often, other than the daily work of washing dishes and cleaning up the countertops. However, if you're a family household, then that might definitely need to change. Along with counter wiping and cleaning your dishes, you might also be required to sweep the floor, throw out expired food and even go brooming under appliances such as the refrigerator to get everything clean.

Keep the Pests Away

Unfortunately, there is no way to entirely keep out these little critters out of your kitchen. No home is built perfectly with zero cracks. What you can do is prevent the issue from getting worse and even keep them at bay. One of the best things to do for your food and to keep pests away is to place them in air-tight containers as even boxed food can be penetrated by pests. The next tip is to place all your trash in a closed-lid can. Bugs are attracted to trash and will naturally gravitate into your home.

Clean What You Can't See

It's not what you can see, but what you can't see is often the problem. Homeowners will say with great frustration that even though they clean every day, their kitchen is always either dirty or infested. A common mistake made by homeowners is not in their cleaning techniques but in their problem-finding techniques. There are a variety of areas that tend to be neglected for months or even years. These could include air ventilation systems within the kitchen or even the top of your fridge. Another tip for keeping your kitchen dust-free is to clean out crawl spaces, or the areas behind drywall access panels which may be located on ceilings, walls, or columns.

Start at the Top

The last thing you want to find after hours of deep cleaning is that you just made a bigger mess. The best way to streamline your cleaning is to start from the top and work your way down. This means dusting off any dirty cabinets, the top of the fridge and even your ceiling fan. You will make a mess on your floor, but that's totally okay as you will eventually sweep it away as you work your way down.

These are some of the best ways to go about cleaning your home kitchen. When you get started, review your own layout and design a plan of attack that is suitable for your particular area.
