Story: Post Mortem starts when photographer Tomas (Klem) is asked to help a small village with their photos of the dead. In the aftermath of the First World War, Tomas built up a reputation for being one of the best at respecting the dead.
Once Tomas is in the village, he teams up with a young girl Anna (Hais), and they both start seeing shadows in the village. The pair team up to investigate what has been happening, learning the disturbing truth about the village.
Verdict on Post Mortem
Characters
Tomas is a post-mortem photographer that worked on photographing the dead around the First World War. He gives the dead an honourable last photo before they are laid to rest. Tomas is asked to help in a small village, where he finds himself dealing with more than he was expecting. He must figure out what the ghosts of the village want, teaming up with Anna in search of answers.
Anna is a young girl that brings Tomas to her village. She tells him about the dangers and is one of the only ones that will support him in the search for the truth.
In the supporting characters, we get the other residents of the village who have different reactions to Tomas being there. They have been through a lot after the war.
Performances
Viktor Klem and Fruzsina Hais in the leading roles are both great. They show the fear, determination and teamwork their characters have to make this work.
Story
The story follows a photographer and young girl as they team up to help her village understand what is happening with the ghosts in her village. This sees them trying to understand what is wanted and what the secret causing the hauntings truly is.
The story does give us a very interesting spin on the ghost story. It takes us through a world that shows how the early photographers operated with photos of the dead. There is plenty of disturbing imagery when it comes to showing how the haunting occurs.
This will keep us guessing what will happen next and makes us want to see how the horror will unfold. Using the village’s unease of strangers coming into the village creates more tension.
Themes
Post Mortem is a horror that takes us into a post-First World War village to photograph the dead. This leads to the haunting events after an unseen shadow can be seen in the photos. The horror is built up well and doesn’t hold back the shocking moments that many horror films hold back.
