Pittsburgh: Two Faculty Positions in History and Philosophy of Science

By Wuthrich

The University of Pittsburgh’s HPS department advertises two faculty positions, one at the junior, tenure-track level and a senior tenured position. For both, they seek an AOS of either philosophy of physics or philosophy of biology. My guess is that they hope to find one each, which means that there may be non-trivial interference effects between the two searches. Anyway, that’s just my guess. Here are the ads:

Assistant Professor of History and Philosophy of Science

University of Pittsburgh, Department of History and Philosophy of Science, Rank: Assistant Professor of History and Philosophy of Science, tenure track, beginning September 1, 2016. AOS: Open, but with strong preference for i) History and Philosophy of Physics and ii) History and Philosophy of Biology; AOC: Open. Candidates should exhibit interest in integrating history and philosophy of science as well as in-depth knowledge of the science or sciences relevant to their research. Four courses per year; graduate and undergraduate advising; usual non-teaching duties. Ph.D. prior to appointment is required.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a C.V., at least three confidential letters of recommendation, a research statement, a teaching portfolio, and a writing sample through the following URL: https://facultysearch.as.pitt.edu/apply/index/MTE4.

For each reference, you will have the opportunity to input a personal email address or an email address generated through Interfolio’s Online Application Delivery. In both cases, an email notification will be sent to the designated address with instructions about uploading the letters to our system.

Deadline for receipt of applications: October 31, 2015.
