Geneva: PhD Position/assistant in Philosophy of Science

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Geneva invites applications for a position of

Assistant in Philosophy of Science.

Conditions: Hold a master’s degree in philosophy, physics or mathematics or a qualification deemed equivalent. Skills in physics and/or philosophy are desirable. Have a research project and be committed to writing a thesis in the field of the philosophy of physics or the philosophy of science in the Department of Philosophy under the supervision of Professor Christian Wüthrich. Excellent command of French and English.

Specification of tasks: This is a 70% post, which will be increased to 100% from the third year. The assistant will be responsible for two hours of teaching per week. In addition, they will be required to take part in the correction of assignments, the supervision of students, the activities of Prof. Wüthrich’s research group and the management of the department. 

Salary: CHF 47’850 per annum in the 1st year at 70% (position 8/4 of the salary scale of the State of Geneva). The maximum salary is reached after 4 double years of service (CHF 81,264 per annum at 100%, position 8/12 of the salary scale).

Start date: 1 August 2024 

Term of office: Assistants are appointed for an initial period of 2 years; the appointment is renewable for two successive periods of 2 years and 1 year respectively.

The first year of employment is a trial period during which the employment relationship may be terminated subject to a notice period of 3 months to the end of the month.
