Paleo Staples: How To Build Quick Paleo Meals

Do you know what is a Paleo staple? A staple is a food that is very essential to any dietary lifestyle. In the case of Paleo, practitioners are fortunate in the fact that our staples are easy to get, quite affordable, preservative-free, and much better for our bodies.

More beneficial still is that Paleo staples can be purchased in bulk, and a plethora of meals can be made from just one trip to the grocery store. It is the Paleo easy way!

What foods are considered Paleo Staples?

The Paleo Pantry is a really fun place to be.  If you are someone who likes to create meals and make food pairings, there is nothing more fascinating than digging in the pool of wonderful foods that make up the staples of the Paleo lifestyle.

Let’s start with the all-time Paleo favorite staples for the pantry:

  1. Fish sauce- This concentrated salty product is all natural and seasons anything and everything with very little amount. One bottle should last you over a month. I use the Red Boat brand, which has only two ingredients (anchovy and sea salt).
  2. The flours: coconut and almond- Once you get the proper flour, the sky is the limit. Mix with eggs, nutritional yeast, and your favorite Paleo ingredients to make breads, cookies, crackers, and tons of great snacks with less calories and carbohydrates. Most importantly, no starches, added preservatives, or gluten!
  3. Dry gelatin– Did you know that gelatin is made of animal skin, cartilage and bone? This is why it is Paleo-friendly. It is a natural product that helps make tons of perfect desserts and dips.
  4. Sea salt- Go for the rawest salt form.
  5. Unsweet cocoa powder and dark chocolate powder- Hey, it is Paleo friendly!

The Paleo fridge is pretty cool, as well!  Staple foods that need refrigeration include:

  1. Dairy: Eggs range-free, coconut or almond milk. Also butter products and mayo made from those ingredients are allowed. There is currently a Paleo mayo being sold online that many people swear by.
  2. Meats: grass-fed and organic meats such as chicken, salmon, and pork. Uncured, sugar-free ham and bacon are also allowed.
  3. Produce: Indulge in crunchy greens, and all other very colorful fruits and veggies!
  4. Nuts: Cashews and almonds. Flaxseed too!
  5. Oils: Coconut, Olive, and organic ghee

As far as drinks, you may indulge in squeezed fruits, water, coconut and almond milk, and even wine! As long as you stick to dry red and dry white, non-grain liquor, and non-barley/wheat products, you will be on your way to Paleo.

Build A Paleo Meal in 3 Easy Steps

We put together an infographic (on the left side of the screen) to show you how simple paleo meals can be. Pretty easy, no?  Now, while these foods are easy to find, they are also very easy to pair to make new foods.  For example, cauliflower is a malleable vegetable with very low starch and carbohydrate content. Its texture is so malleable that it can be made into rice, flour, and the likeness of pasta.  Paired together with Paleo cheese and fresh tomato sauce, pizza will never be healthier than this! This, and a ton of other recipes can be found in for more information on how you, too can achieve the Paleo lifestyle that is best for your body.
