This year I will attempting to Live Blog as well as be active on Twitter (@LetsGoToTheMov7) during the Oscars. Although this year I haven’t taken any time off work, as I fell asleep anyway last year.
So keep checking back on here and see how far I actually make it through the show! Comments and discussion welcomed!
The Ceremony – Opening
- Justin Timberlake is the first person we see!
- A big music number on stage.
- Awkward dancing from the audience, haha!
- Jimmy Kimmel, who in all honesty I have never seen on anything before. He has started his monolog by talking to Matt Damon and embarrassing him
- Damien Chazelle’s age mentioned
- A little joke about Denzel Washington directing himself
- Viggo Mortensen in a film no one has actually seen, pretty amusing joke
- Meryl Streep being mentioned as overrated . . . Getting a huge applause from the crowd
The Ceremony – The Awards
- First award for Best Supporting Actor presented by Alicia Vikander goes to . . . Mahershala Ali. He is rather emotional in his speech, thanking his teachers and the people he worked with on the film.
- Make up and Hairstyling – Suicide Squad
- Costume Design – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
- Love seeing the three actresses from Hidden Figures, I totally loved that film so much! Introducing Katherine Johnson, brilliant moment! I still think Henson should have been nominated for her role.
- Documentary Feature – OJ: Made in America
- Who doesn’t love The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson? Lin Manuel Miranda as part of this best original song performance along with Auli’i Cravalho. It is a very typical Disney song, impress really.
- Sound Editing – Arrival
- Sound Mixing – Hacksaw Ridge
- Nice touch looking back at older Oscars ceremonies!
- Ahh Whoopi Goldberg when winning her Oscar! And Catherine Zeta-Jones #Favourites
- Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Which means Mark Rylance is on presenting! The Oscar goes to . . . Viola Davis – Great speech!
- Great to see Shirley MacLaine!
- Foreign Language Film – The Salesman
- Dev Patel is on to introduce a nominee for Best Original Song, with Sting singing
- Animated Short Film – Piper
- Animated Feature Film – Zootopia
- Production Design presented by those actors in Fifty Shades, I guess they have to try and hit a different type of audience! Which goes go La La Land! YAY first of the night!
- A crazy “bus tour” thing with normal people walking across the front taking selfies with the actors . . .
- Visual Effects – The Jungle Book
- Seth Rogan is my guilty pleasure! Look at him wearing the trainers from Back to the Future, with Michael J. Fox.
- Film Editing – Hacksaw Ridge (interesting one, as Best Picture winner usually takes this one)
- Oh theres Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone! John Legend is singing! Wish Gosling and Stone were as well.
