Old Barn Saison – Fernie Brewing

By Mike @mikescraftbeer

From Fernie BC's Fernie Brewing comes the "Old Barn Saison". The beer pours a cloudy amber colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of yeast, bubblegum, spices and sweetness. The flavour is of yeast, pepper, rye spice, grainy malts, citrus rind, bubblegum and banana. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 30 - 35. This is an interesting take on a saison and I quite enjoyed it.

Commercial Description: A very aromatic flavourful, golden brew, with spicy, peppery and fruity notes. The classic Strisselspelt and New Zealand Pacific Jade hops make for a very engaging hop profile for this beer. This is our take on the classic, refreshing and unassuming, yet delicious Belgian beer. Surprisingly light, but packs a punch of flavour to enjoy. Variety of malts, including Munich, Cara Vienna, Rye and Pilsner malts. Hops include Warrior, Strisselspalt and Pacific Jade. Peppercorns and orange peel are also added.

Food pairing as per the brewery: This farmhouse brew, goes well with farmhouse foods. Think French provincial cuisine, strong cheese and flavoursome salads.
