Notes of Glasslip Episode 9

“Have you considered joining the Church of Yuri?”

Last week on Glasslip, as Touko and Kakeru get closer, her friends begin to distance themselves away from not only her, but from each other. Yukinari goes to a track meet out of town without telling Yanagi, and Hiro is still upset with Sachi over her attempt to split Touko and Kakeru apart. Yanagi and Sachi are starting to have real concerns about Touko, whether her being with Kakeru is giving her a bad influence, and if she’s hiding something from them. Meanwhile, Touko is starting to get more frightened by her visions after Episode 7, as these visions she sees become clearer and clearer. The fact that she knows she can’t explain this ‘gift’ of hers to her friends upsets her more, and she starts to get the impression that Kakeru wants to get even closer to her; something she can’t quite accept yet.

Summary of Glasslip Episode 9

  • Things have started to calm down between the gang-of-five, yet Touko is still frustrated by these new visions she has. Kakeru also wants to know what’s going on, as he can’t seem to hear the future anymore. Going to Touko’s house asking for an explanation, she decides to give him the cold shoulder. Yanagi and Yukinari are now back on talking terms, as they decide to begin their step-sibling relationship again. Meanwhile, Sachi asks Touko and Hiro to come to the library/art gallery after dark, where they watch the moon rise and then, out of the blue, Sachi confesses…to Touko.

My take

  • Well I did see it coming, only not now. Well poor Touko, she’s now even more stuck now. For some reason, Kakeru can’t hear the future anymore, he asks Touko for a shoulder to cry on, and she tells him where to go. I would say ‘good for her’ but she’s becoming more of a ditzy little girl now. And now she has to worry about what Sachi wants? I think it is time to draw that diagram now:

  • That confession/”you’re-pretty-cute-yourself-too” line was rather adorable. And the fact that Sachi wanted Hiro to come too to hear her say it in front of Touko was priceless…talk about dumping! But, like I say, Touko’s in trouble. Kakeru wants her, Yukinari wants her (still!), and Jonathan wants her too…so now she knows she’s one of the most sought-after girls in that tiny little ocean town of theirs. Now I could go on and on about how Sachi had liked Touko, but you could see it right from the beginning. Almost as much as everyone in the group knew that Hiro had the hots for Sachi. And now I think Touko’s got to be even more worried, in case Sachi turns yandere. You think I’m being ridiculous? You only have to stare at her pretty little eyes at the top and see…that void we yandere fans know and love. Kakeru’s already her sworn enemy, I’m pretty sure that she’s figured out that Yukinari doesn’t have it in him to man up and target Touko properly (like Kakeru did), and Jonathan’s…a chicken. At the same time though, I don’t want to see Sachi’s sweet little heart break over this, because I already know what Touko’s going to say next week. Poor Sachi.
  • But when it comes to fighting over Touko, in all honesty, Kakeru wouldn’t last two seconds against Sachi; he’s already started to scare Touko, I think, and from what I’m seeing here, he’s sounding more and more of some kind of con artist. Hell, even after 9 episodes, I don’t even know what a ‘fragment of the future’ is meant to be. And crying on Touko’s shoulder when he can’t ‘hear’ the future anymore is kind of stupid. Those clearer visions are already freaking her out, and now he wants to dominate her life even further by completely cutting her off from her friends and whisking her away into…I don’t know…the future? I kind of feel sorry for his parents.

What do you want, a hug!?

  • Still loving Yanagi. Sort of. I say sort of because all she did this week is exchange phone calls with Yukinari and go shopping with Touko’s onee-chan. I see a new BFF coming. Yup, that’s right. Swap one with the other. Don’t get me wrong, Hina’s a cute little girl, but that’s……well…I don’t really have any doubt that being jealous of Touko and back-stabbing her is what makes Yanagi Yanagi.

Sure she is.

  • So yuri, backstabbing and ‘incest’. Hope the show stays like this. Not as good as the pay-per-view episode, though.

I’m British, and live about an hour outside of London. My first encounter in anime was with bargain bin DVDs at my local rental store, but it was only until around another 5 years later when anime took over me properly...so to speak. I used to turn to fantasy shows a lot (including magical girl shows) but now I’m more of a sucker for school and slice-of-life shows. Don’t even turn to me when it comes to mecha; can’t stand it. I’m also a Final Fantasy 14 addict. And I’m allergic to mushrooms.
