Glasslip Episode 8

Last week on Glasslip, the gang of five is slowly falling apart, and most of them are pointing the finger at Kakeru for causing all of this trouble, but despite all of this, Touko decides to get closer to him. Meanwhile, Sachi is admitted to a hospital for some tests, Touko and Kakeru visit the beach for a ‘date’, but Yanagi bumps into them, where she tells him that it’s his fault that the group are splitting apart…and with Touko witnessing this, she suddenly has another vision.

Summary of Glasslip Episode 8

  • Rifts are starting to get bigger as Touko starts to get closer to Kakeru. Yukinari heads off on a track meet out of town without telling anyone, and after the beach trip was cancelled, and Hiro begins to distance himself from Sachi after she deliberately didn’t tell Touko about the cancellation. Yanagi and Sachi start to wonder if Touko is hiding something from them which, they believe, is giving her a bad influence. Touko’s visions, meanwhile, are getting more clearer, and more frightening, making her worry if having this ‘gift’ is something to fear. And something that’ll split her friends apart entirely.

My Take

  • After last week’s soap opera, I genuinely wasn’t sure what to think this time around. Wouldn’t call it a filler episode either, which is a relief, because we know how much filler episodes suck.
  • Touko’s visions are one of the key things in this entire show, and now that they’ve starting to become more frequent, more clearer, and more unsettling, Glasslip is heading towards quite possibly a very heart-breaking conclusion. What with the puppydog acting emo once again and not telling the others that he went off to a track meet, Hiro cowering away from his beloved Sachi after something which is, to be honest, easily forgivable (the wuss!), and Yanagi questioning whether Kakeru is giving a bad influence on Touko, even if they squared off last time.
  • Yes yes, Yanagi. Her opinion of Touko has reversed a little this time around. It’s easy to tell that she feels sorry for how she’s been treating Touko recently. They used to get along so well too, and now someone she despised so much from the beginning has been giving bad influences on her, and pushing her away from her. I’d be mad too, but I’m not an adolescent anymore.

Glasslip Episode 8

  • Both she and Sachi are suspecting something is going on with her, outside of the fact that they’ve been seeing each other now. Since these ‘visions’ and ‘fragments of the future’ are stuff that would make any other soppy schoolgirl/jealous emo puppydog/over-emotional girl/uber-happy idiot laugh, Touko’s a bit stuck right now. Oh, and have these visions been surreal too…windows smashing, evil flying crows, snow, and Kakeru grabbing her and planting a soppy kiss…I’d be freaking out too if I were in her shoes.
  • And here’s emo Hiro. Who’d have thought that an uber-happy stumbling idiot like him would have be moody now? And the strangest thing? He’s behaving worse in the show than he was when he was the idiot before. Maybe that wish of mine of him leaving the show will come true after all. He’ll disappear into those woods he’s been hiking in and never come back. I’d miss him too. I’m such a heretic and a hypocrite for saying that too!

Glasslip Episode 8

  • I’m not sure if an ending with everyone kissing and making up, and Kakeru joining the fold, would ever be a possibility. But maybe the gang-of-five will get back together after all; I don’t know. All of this drama did start when Kakeru arrived into town, after all. And what with Touko’s visions scaring the hell out of her now, I think she’s starting to wonder if being with Kakeru’s the best thing to do…
  • But while I say this wasn’t a filler episode…well…it was and it wasn’t either. Last week was definitely the best episode so far, but I’m sure that a better episode will come in the 5 remaining ones to come.

I’m British, and live about an hour outside of London. My first encounter in anime was with bargain bin DVDs at my local rental store, but it was only until around another 5 years later when anime took over me properly...so to speak. I used to turn to fantasy shows a lot (including magical girl shows) but now I’m more of a sucker for school and slice-of-life shows. Don’t even turn to me when it comes to mecha; can’t stand it. I’m also a Final Fantasy 14 addict. And I’m allergic to mushrooms.
