One of CAL FIRE’s Broncos was on static display during the California Capital Airshow.  The distinctive high-mounted elevator facilitated easy access to the rear of the fuselage.  First flown in 1965, the OV-10A was originally used in military counter-insurgency and close air-support roles before finding a new purpose in civilian life.  In 1993, CAL FIRE acquired OV-10As from the Department of Defense and operate 14 of them for wildfire air attack use. The crew then directs CAL FIRE’s air tanker and helicopter pilots where to make their retardant and water drops.  Grass Valley is home to one of CAL FIRE’s 13 air attack bases.  Nikon D7100 w/18-200mm, processing with Aperture.
