No Seiyuu No Life: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka

Posted on the 21 April 2015 by Kaminomi @OrganizationASG

I’m pretty sure that for everyone, living in Akihabara would be a dream come true, but let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Would you like having random songs stuck in your head for days? Like, imagine living your life with the OP of Heartcatch Precure stuck in your head? It’s hard isn’t it?

Either way, let’s move on and let’s talk about Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.

No Seiyuu No Life: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka

Known for: Kirito (Sword Art Online)

My favorite role: Sora (No Game No Life)

Somehow, I was under the impression that this guy was more new in the industry than that, but he’s been around for a few years apparently. Not that he was very noticeable but that’s what you get for voicing people with names like “Student A).

I guess his popularity really took off when he got the role of Kirito in Sword Art Online. I guess that would have happened to anyone in his position. Not to say he is bad, because he is not, I’m just stating a fact.

He wasn’t so bad as Kirito,  I thought Yoshitsugu Matsuoka was really good at being annoying and at making me dislike Kirito. I wonder if it was done on purpose. More seriously though, even as Kirito, he did a good job at actually making the character’s emotions pass to the viewer and it’s always something I appreciate in a seiyuu.

He did more or less the same as Sora in No Game No Life. While the series was shorter and as such offered less occasions for emotions, Sora is a role that somehow stuck with me since then. The whole series stuck with me and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as well as the whole cast of the anime helped.

I really like how he can act both completely detached from everything that is happening around him and also so concerned while still keeping some kind of very monotone voice. It sounds easy when I talk about but if you think about it, it means being emotional while keeping your voice on the same level all the time. I don’t think it’s as easy as it sounds, just think of the last time you tried to hdie your emotions and see.

More recently, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is the lead in Food Wars!!, he’s voicing an energetic and annoying over confident little brat and somehow, I think that fits him. Or at least he did it pretty well in the 3 episodes of that anime that already have aired.

Now I’m a bit curious about how his career will develop. I hope he’ll branch out of the heroic nice guy type of character and try his hands at a bad one for once. I think it would be interesting to hear.
