New Cover for Slightly Stalky

By Kidfreeliving @kidfreeliving

I didn’t realize it at the time that I was writing it, but after some soul searching it occurred to me that Slightly Stalky, my romantic comedy, is really best for an audience in their early twenties (not only people my age who think they’re still in their early twenties.)  This is a genre known as New Adult (as opposed to YA, Young Adult, which is younger and DYA which is Delusional Young Adult (middle-aged me).)

Anyway… doing a little research I noticed all the NA books had photo covers. Mostly half-naked werewolves, but always photo covers. So, I decided to make a change. I loved my old cover – it really showed the whimsy of the book:

…so it broke my heart a little. But if your audience doesn’t recognize your book as something they might like, how will they know to buy it! So now, revealing the cover: (drum roll please…)

Real people! The cover was done by Steven Novak of  Novak Illustration, whom I highly recommend! Super easy to work with him.

So, hopefully this will make marketing Slightly Stalky a little easier for me, because dangit – it’s a funny little book and more people should read it!

It’s important to grow with you book and your audience, and sometimes, growing means taking a step back to think about things and crunch the data.
