Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia is a rare disease in which there is severe pain in back of the throat, nose, tongue, ear, tonsil area and voice box. This pain remains from few seconds to few minutes. There are repeated episodes of severe pain. In glossopharyngeal Neuralgia is connected to ninth nerve i.s. glossopharyngeal nerve. In this article we are going to discuss about the glossopharyngeal Neuralgia in detail and to know about the treatment in ayurveda with herbal medications. So be with me till the end.

Introduction

Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia is the condition in which there is extreme pain in the back of the throat, tongue, ear and tonsils. In this condition, the glossopharyngeal nerve (ninth nerve) gets irritated and causes shooting pain in the area. This nerve arises from the brainstem and ends at the jugular foramen. Pain is triggered by sneezing, swallowing, coughing, chewing etc. This condition may also cause fainting, bradycardia, and arrhythmia. Tumors or infections also cause pressing of glossopharyngeal neuralgia and cause pain. Treatment may include analgesics which mainly relieve pain. But when pain is difficult to treat surgery is only the alternative treatment i.e. micro vascular decompression. It is a rare condition of nerve irritation (glossopharyngeal nerve) which causes jabbing pain in the affected part and causes a lot of problems for the patient.

  • Anti- seizure medications

  • Rhizotomy (nerve is cut)
