Nashville Nor’ East

As we announced last evening on our Facebook and Twitter pages organizers of the Nashville Nor’ East Country Music Festival, slated to run next weekend, abruptly cancelled the event yesterday afternoon for financial reasons.  The event was to star The Band Perry and Tim Hicks among others May 23 & 24 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The cancellation comes less than a month after the event was forced to cancel the appearance of the Eli Young Band also for financial reasons.

Here is the full statement from the event’s Facebook page:

Nashville Nor’east Cancellation

As organizers of the Nashville Nor’east Country Music Festival, we sincerely regret to announce that we have been forced to cancel the festival.

As a non-profit community group, we had hoped to launch an exciting new event that would be a boost to the spring tourism season, an economic generator for our community, and of course, an entertaining weekend for all the country music fans in the region.

However, this year brought an unprecedented amount of competition in the marketplace from other events. In Sydney alone we saw shows with Toby Keith and Bryan Adams scheduled in close proximity to our event, while other summer events, like CapeFest (Aerosmith and Slash) and Concert on the Dock (ELO and Blue Rodeo) were also directly competing with us for ticket sales. Within the region, the Shania Twain concert went on sale at the same time as us, the Cavendish Beach Music Festival has a very strong line-up, and a wide array of other high calibre events are scheduled.

With this significant amount of competition and only so much disposable income to go around, most people had to pick and choose which events to attend. This impacted our projected attendance. As a result, we have been forced to cancel the festival, as proceeding with the event would simply not be financially responsible.

We sincerely apologize for this unfortunate outcome for everyone who bought or won tickets, all the artists who had planned to perform, all those who planned to generously offer their time to volunteer, and all the generous organizations who supported this event.

For those who purchased tickets or passes through Centre 200, complete refunds will be made next week. For all others, complete refund details may be found on the Nashville Nor’east website at www.nashvillenoreast.com/refunds.
