#music Tramlines - Day One

On Friday Tramlines kicked off in typical fashion (music, booze etc...) and I wasn't feeling too sharp the morning after.

The sunny afternoon brought music lovers into the city as the festivities began, there was a buzz in the air as people of all ages enjoyed great weather with al fresco drinking and music spilled on to the pavements too.

My first port was The Sheffield Tap, well outside of the train station boozer if you are nit picking, for comedic troop The Everly Pregnant Brothers. Usually a seven piece the local blokes were a few men down but still put on a funny and enjoyable set. This wasn't an official Tramlines show so they used some wit and labeled it Trainlines as they performed the tunes that have earned cult status in the past few years, reinventing classics, giving them a Sheffield make over, commenting on every day things, mostly food related. Cheers were made as one Brother sprinted from the train to stage and there was constant chuckles through out.
A brisk walk to the Cathedral followed for Hey Sholay. The venue was jam packed and the queue wound around the block for a band who deserve so much more notoriety. The seated crowd were told to move their chairs away and get involved as the charismatic front man tried his hardest to get some audience participation but they were having none of it, typical Sheffield crowd, reserved as always.

The quintet played songs from last years debut LP and a couple from their recent EP. It was an energetic set that had more hooks than a Disney film involving pirates leaving me mystified why this lot aren't huge.

And that was day one over for me as i caught the last bus home.
