Summary: A young woman goes on a mission to Japan to stop her sister from committing suicide only to come across an evil forest.
My Thoughts: The sad part about this whole review is that I wanted to like this movie. I really wanted to and unfortunately, I didn't. I didn't like this movie. THERE! I SAID IT! I even brought a bunch of my friends to poke fun at it in case of this to see if I would still have a good time and it still didn't even make it any better. The plot about a woman frantically searching for her suicidal sister is interesting and because I haven't seen any horror movies revolving around this forest in Japan, it's the reason why I was so interested in The Forest, but while I was watching the movie I didn't feel much for her search for her sister. While watching the movie, I just didn't care about her or her sister or whether or not they got out alive. I wanted to see who died next and when the move was going to end. Natalie Dormer is a good actress, but Jess's and Sarah's story not being told in a way that the audience can feel is the fault of the script and not her acting.
The film revolves around her getting to the forest to look for her sister and instead of her actually doing some looking and there being a story and her finding out more about her sister or whatever the writers could've come up with, the story just stops. There's jump scares, there's some things that actually surprised me, which is why this movie didn't completely tank, and there's a decent resolution to the movie, but I didn't walk out feeling fulfilled. I didn't walk out of theater shocked, just angry. I was angry at the ending not only because of the fact I didn't see it coming because instead of paying attention to the little story that was there I was trying to pinpoint the ending, but also that I spent money seeing this movie because of so much potential that it had that it just wasted on being just another horror movie.
