13 Sins (2014) Poster
13 Sin (2014)Starring: Mark Webber, Devon Graye, Tom Bower, Rustina Wesley
Summary: When a man in a terrible financial situation gets a mysterious phone call promising monetary compesation for doing challenges, his life is turned upside down as the challenges begin to get more and more deadly.

My Thoughts: This movie was recommended to me by a family member and I had seen the trailer and it looked interesting, but I did not expect it to be as good as it was. This movie was really, really good and it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was even a bit comical at times, but that was thanks to the main character, Elliot. Elliot has just lost his job and is in debt from his mentally handicapped brother's medical bills and his upcoming wedding and Mark Webber really brings out the personality in this character and shines in this flick. In movies like these when the main character is on the phone for a majority of the movie, (And there are a lot, Cellular and Phone Booth to name a couple), you really don't get a sense of the character and their personality. Here, you see that Elliot is sarcastic and sensitive at first, he's funny, but knows his limits and he has a hell of a lot of humanity. Psychological thrillers don't rely on the character development, but plot development, but this case in particular relies on a balanced mixture of both and does this very well.

Throughout the movie, I felt actions were a bit rushed, however. I know that there are time limits on the challenges and that everything happened in about two to three days, but I still felt things were happening way too fast. This wasn't a major issue, but it bothered me a little becuase it was always one thing after the next nonstop.

I had fun watching this in alone when I was bored, but it would be fun to watch with a couple of friends and a bucket of popcorn late at night, but I wouldn't recommend this for someone looking for something out of the park crazy to watch. This movie was just a good flick I happened to come across on Netflix.

So, check it out if this is down your lane.
