Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, Disney’s 1993 remake of the 1963 hit The Incredible Journey, follows three household pets as they travel across mountains and plains on their way to find their owners. A misunderstanding leads the animals to mistakenly believe that they have been abandoned by their loved ones, when in reality they have been left in the care of a friend while the family has moved from the country to the city for the father to take a temporary assignment . All three pets–a golden retriever (Don Ameche), a cat (Sally Field), and a bulldog puppy (Michael J. Fox)–can talk, and they bicker and crack jokes as they set off on a truly incredible journey chock full of misadventures as they wend their way back to their owners. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Oh man, that ending gets me every freaking time.  I guess now that I am a proud pet owner, these sort of pet movies just tug at the heart strings a bit more than most.  I do remember seeing this when I was a kid and just wanted a dog after that, mainly one that talks but I knew that was impossible.  This was a great kids/family movie, with enough heart to win anyone over while having a solid story and the emotional kick needed to carry us on the journey.

Looking back at the movie, Sally Field and Michael J. Fox lending their voices to the whole movie makes it even more special.  You can appreciate the sharp humor that comes the bickering pets as they make their way to their owner, once again proving how fucking awesome pets are.  The journey is filled with the usual trials and tribulations, often forcing the furry group to work together until it gets right to the end where I just crumble in an emotional heap.  Lord those gifs above still just get the water works coming.

The movie ended up spawning a sequel, which in that case animal services should have taken those animals away and given to a better family.  How many fucking times are those pets going to have to journey to you?  It’s like Toy Story where Andy keeps misplacing his damn toys.  PAY ATTENTION SHIT!  I certainly have a fondness towards this movie, more so because of emotional bond I have with my dog and the fact that I love movies with dogs as the lead.  Except for Beverly Hills Chihuahua, fuck that movie. So hug your dog and pet your cat, enjoy the evening folks.
