José Luis Gutiérrez & Co.

We returned to Fórum Maia for more of the Comic Theatre Festival, and as was the case on Tuesday, I was able to get more photos of the outdoor opening act than the main event inside the large auditorium. What I neglected to mention before is that one major reason why main events/performances have a photo/video ban is because they’re professional acts, and secondly (or perhaps even firstly) it is nigh impossible to prevent people from blinding the performers with camera flash except to ban photography outright. But there are always people who will do it anyway, and tonight was no exception — I saw several flashes go off in the crowd. Silly people!

Anyway, this meant my photos of the main act are from the final bow again, but I’ve embedded a video clip of their act in a nutshell. After the very manic performance of Yllana’s “Gagfather” on Tuesday, “Tatatachán” was gentle and tame. There were plenty of kids in the audience, and the circus performances were geared more towards them (juggling, bicycle stunts), with a touch of cabaret (plenty of musical instruments) for the adults. All in, a crowd-pleaser.

TATATACHÁN – Música & circo

José Luis Gutiérrez: Idea original, voz, saxofón y piano
Stéphanie Bouchard: (Pandereta) Cable, trapecio, percusiones, acordeón
Jean Philippe Kikolas: (Timbre) Bicicleta, acrobacia, serrucho, percusión
Isaac Posac: (Tío pelotas) Malabares, acrobacia, acordeón, piano

The opening outdoor act were clown performers: Oli and Mary Circus Portugal. For just two people, they had quite the repertoire!
