Monster Trucks

Posted on the 28 April 2017 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Starring: Lucas Till, Jane Levy, Thomas Lennon, Barry Pepper, Rob Lowe, Danny Glover, Amy Ryan, Holt McCallany, Frank Whaley
Directed By: Chris Wedge

Plot: Do you honestly care? Some oil company drills and secret creatures we didn’t know about come out. Then it gets inside a truck… and fuck it. Your kids might like it.

What Works: Your kids might like it. It’s not really any worse than a mid-level Disney Channel Original Movie, or some of those bullshit 90’s kids flicks like Star Kid. Also, this film does actually boast a really talented cast. Amy Ryan, why are you in this film? Your character isn’t even that big. You barely do anything. Literally everyone in this cast made this film better just by being in it, but all of them deserve much better.

What Doesn’t: I wanted to do other things while this movie was on. This is one of those films that I would have maybe enjoyed when I was 10, but adults literally cannot watch without wanting to put their head into a wall. I’ve seen animated films aimed at younger audiences that are at least more fun than this. This was just dumb, but I think kids might enjoy it? I don’t understand why this had all this money thrown at it. It looks like a 30M movie, tops. Where did the budget go? What a huge waste.

Final Word: Unless you’re a 10 year old, don’t bother. In fact, if you rent this for the family, leave your kids in front of the TV and go do something else. The only thing I can’t fault this film for is bad acting. There is no bad acting in this film, just a lot of disappointment.

Final Grade: D+
