Modcloth Gets Technical – IPhone App Is Here

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

Hi All,

I adore Modcloth and have a few of their dresses in my wardrobe. It is the classic mix of vintage kitsch and modern branding that has made them stick out in my ind over the last few years. If you haven’t browsed there wide array of cute patterns and bold tailoring then your seriously need to. Another reason for giving Modcloth the credit they deserve, is that, since their launch in 2006 they have worked the ever growing world of technology and social media in a way that other small brands haven’t. I believe this is what has taken them from small, boutique style, online store to a front runner in the world of vintage style clothing! They are a force to be reckoned with.

I mean look at this dress, is it not just PERFECT and it’s only £64 – I must have one!

There has been a lot of emphasis in the press about the importance of social integration into eCommerce, especially fashion sites, to help boost sales in this age of austerity. I think it is so much more than just a tool to boost sales, I truly believe that where Modcloth gets their social media 100% correct is by listening to their customers. Their Twitter feed is full of conversations between the company and their thousands of fans, they talk about issues that affect us all and are always interested in feedback. It is this interest in their customers through all their social subscriptions that makes them stand out from the pack, at least in my eyes anyway!

Then you have the Google hangouts and crowdsourced fashion – they never miss a trick when it comes to bringing their customers exactly what they need from both innovative design and fun use of technology!

This dress is a personal favorite of mine – great for festival season and afternoon tea!

SO, now Modcloth have taken their social media campaign one step further, with the release of their IPhone App – I had to have been one of the first in the Que for it! It was an obvious move for the company, as back in February they launched their IPad app which has brought forward a projected growth of 129% in mobile visits alone*. The obvious move is to up play their mobile site, which is incredibly easy to navigate, full of gorgeous clothing and so easy to get through to the checkout – I hate complicated mobile fashion sites!

Personally, I also believe that Modcloth’s ‘Be The Buyer’ Campaign will also benefit fro the move to mobile apps rather than just web browser site. If you don’t know the campaign, then the general gist is that, when the designers have a new idea for a piece of clothing or an accessory, they make a sample  photograph it and put it out to the public to see what we think. Yes they really hold us so high in regard that we literally get to Be The Buyer – something I believe more companies should be looking at!

In closing, I think there is a lot that can be learned from this creative, young brand!

Plus I love his handbag!
