Sydney singer/songwriter Michael Cullen is back with a new album, True Believer, and his entrancing, rich baritone will have you hooked right away. The first track, “Black Dog”, sees Cullen channelling his post-punk 80s and 90s days to bring an intensely somber track where his disdain for the one who “tore out [his] heart/with no regrets” drips off every word. Drummer Tim Powles steadily follows Cullen’s deep voice as it dips and dives to some pretty impressive depths, all the while becoming increasingly deeper and darker as the song progresses.
