“Columns” / Camiguin Island, the Philippines / August 2012
The structure is the unusually thick outer wall of a Spanish Era church which was destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1871 (see my previous post, Camiguin). For some reason, somebody decided to plant a row of mahogany trees very close to the structure in recent years. The row of trees may have improved the ambiance but threatens the historic structure with its rapid growth.
Anyway, to capture the image, I angled the shot such that the tree trunks seemed parallel to the pillars of the old church thus creating a slight illusion that the shady surfaces of the pillars are the shadows of the tree trunks.
