‘Lucifer’ Picked Up By Netflix After Fox Cancellation

Fans spoke up on Social Media and caught the attention of network heads.

What happens when showrunners and fans don’t want to let a show go? They raise hell on social media. Tom Ellis led the charge when Lucifer was canceled from The FOX Network and the other showrunners and fans from all over the world stepped up to follow his lead by telling everyone everywhere to try to #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer.

The CW was one of the first to announce that they weren’t interested in picking up the cop drama series, saying that they were happy with the current lineup they had, despite the fact that Lucifer is based off the same DC Comics that inspire the Arrowverse series of shows. But, fans didn’t relent. Even as the deadline of June 16th came closer and closer.

News noted that Amazon had considered the series, but it was Netflix who finally sealed the deal with Warner Bros. Television one day before the actors were about to be released from their contracts. No one confirmed the length of the pickup, but sources confirmed that there will be a 10-episode season to Season 4 on the streaming giant. The first time that Netflix has picked up a series that was canceled in more than three-and-a-half years.

Fans, your voices have been heard. Season 4 coming to Netflix!!! 😈

Tom Ellis, who remained optimistic, especially as the #SaveLucifer campaign grew, was overwhelmed by the love of the fans, saying,

“Since doing Lucifer, I’ve done press in various parts of the world and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox. Our figures suggested that lots of people watch the show, just not necessarily on Fox. So in a weird way, I’m not surprised about people being angry. I just wasn’t ready this tsunami of love that came with it.”

With the fourth season upcoming, maybe Tom Ellis will get his wish that the next season will be a little darker than the previous seasons. And fans might actually get to see the reaction that Chloe Decker is likely to have about the reveal that Season 3 ended with. These were things that fans did not get to see when Fox aired the two extra episodes that were supposed to be part of the Season 4.

If you follow Lucifer, and showrunners on Twitter, you got to see all the thanks that were sent the fans way as they were all excited by the news that they were saved. It goes to show that sometimes fans do win.

You fans are incredible. You did this. We are so happy to keep the family together. Lucifer on Netflix is back. Has a ring to it I say. Thank you @netflix and Thank you to each and everyone of you who fought like a demon!
