Since coming back to the US our personal belongings have mostly been stored away in boxes - half of them with me, the other half tucked away for the day we moved into our own place.
Well, that time as come. Two weeks ago we officially moved out of my mother's home after 10 months and I've been going through our boxes setting up our new lives. And yes, admittedly over the years I have acquired a collection of handbags, shoes and when the item of clothing is worthy, it stays with me for a long time.
On Labor Day, the Mr, Little M and I headed to Washington Marina for a BBQ with friends and I swear I truly had NOTHING TO WEAR. If you read my post from yesterday you will know that my belly decided to grow overnight and I can no longer just squeeze into my regular jeans or skirts.
So I ripped open more boxes and found some of my maternity dresses I had saved - I have dresses, but they are too snazzy for a BBQ - I just wanted something simple.
And then out came this little gray number. It's a cotton, t-shirt feeling dress that I got at Motherhood exactly four years ago when I was expecting Little M. Nothing special, but it did the trick.
I couldn't find the belt that went with it, so I dressed it up with my pink one from Target and of course the same sandals I have been wearing all summer.
But the greatest surprise of all was that in that same box was my gorgeous Cath Kidston floral bag that I had bought in the UK.
Oooooh! I squealed with delight... I swear, it felt like shopping!
It's a perfect bag for going to work - fits the laptop, notebook and it's also a great mami bag because there is plenty of room for toys, snacks, extra clothing and anything else you may need to toss in and go.
Cath Kidston doesn't have stores in the US, but you can order online. It's worth checking out...my collection includes bags, wallets, coffee mugs and a blue floral blouse.
Finding the dress and bag completely made my day! As you may have read, I am on a major budget and having to buy new jeans and a few maternity frocks sounds fun but a bit distressing when there isn't a whole lot of money.
I have had some great suggestions for places to shop consignment and second hand here in the DC area so I will have to check them out very soon.
For now, I am working with what I have and mixing and matching maternity clothes with my current wardrobe.
