Virginia folk rock troupe The Last Bison have a new album coming out around this time next month, and its first single has a more anthemic sound than previously heard. Recording the album from a rustic cabin on the edge of a Chesapeake swamp, the band was able to fully focus on pouring themselves into a new, more celebratory vibe. “I feel like our previous music was fall and winter music. I wanted this new album to sound more like summer. I want people to feel like they walked outside on a summer day,” frontman Ben Hardesty said of the record’s warm aesthetic. “Every Time” seems to achieve the brightness they were aiming for, with a sweaty tribal rhythm and an impassioned conviction to their delivery. Perhaps recording so close to nature had something to do with the expansiveness heard here, or maybe it’s the result of something inside welling up, swelling and finally being released. Either way, The Last Bison’s “Every Time” has us ready to hear the rest of the album, appropriately titled VA, which is out on September 30th.
