It’s been about 5 minutes since Banks exploded into everyone’s consciousness, featuring in the BBC’s much talked about Sound of 2014 Shortlist and landing herself a support slot on The Weeknd’s tour late last year. It’s been a pretty quiet start to the year for the singer, until last night when new single ‘Brain’ was premiered.
The decision to get Shlohmo on production duties is a good one, as his ghostly synths and ethereal vocal effects compliment Banks with perfection. A slow start melts into a dramatic chorus with a shed load of distortion applied to Banks’s voice as she flies out of the murky opening of the track. It doesn’t let up from there, ebbing with immediacy and drama that will no doubt appease fans that have been eager to hear new material.
