Lex Loves Wedding: Why We’re Not Postponing Our Wedding

Every week or so, I see at least one couple postpone their wedding due to Covid-19. Some planned to get married before us, others after. Of course, the thought creeps into my head - are we doing the right thing by moving forward? Here are a few reasons why we're not postponing.

#1: We're not in a rush, but we don't want to wait

My fiancé and I have been dating for nearly a decade - officially 10 years in May. After being together for so long, I'm sure a year-long engagement does not seem like a rush to anyone. We're excited to take this next step and we don't want to wait.

#2: It's not about the wedding, it's about marriage.

We are planning a beautiful wedding that we want to remember forever. Some of the aspects will not be normal. This would be upsetting if this was about the wedding. It is not.

It's about marriage. I've been looking forward to marrying Brian long before he proposed. Our wedding day is important, but it's not everything. It's what comes after with my husband that I look forward to the most!

#3: There's no certainty or guarantees about next year

Covid appears to be ever-present for the foreseeable future. While 2022 will likely be better than 2021 on the pandemic front, a Covid-free world is unlikely. A maskless celebration is probably a long shot.

With all of the uncertainty, it doesn't feel worth rolling the dice and hoping for a normal 2022. It could be better, but if 2020 taught us anything it's that nothing is guaranteed.

#4: It's our choice

There are so many things beyond our control these days. When we get married doesn't have to be one of them. Even if it ends up being in my parents' backyard with just close friends and family - we are getting married in 2021. That's our choice.

It's also your choice

These are, excuse the cliché, unprecedented times. Deciding whether or not to postpone is a huge decision. If you decide to push out your wedding, any reason you have to do so is valid. So please don't take the above as any other than our reason for moving forward!

Your big day should be what you want it to be. If you want to wait until conditions are more optimal, I don't blame you. Everyone's journey to the altar is different! Especially these days.
