Leviathan 1 Single Malt Whiskey Review

Leviathan 1 Single Malt Whiskey is among the first peated whiskeys that Lost Spirits brought into the world using their reactor and it’s gained a bit of a legendary status in the whiskey community. Some people like it, a few love it and some people hate it. It’s a polarizing whiskey and something of a fork in the road for the industry. One lane towards tradition and the other towards technology.

One of the most interesting things about this whiskey is where the peat came from… Canada. Yup, the Great White North. So if technology-based, quick-aging and Canadian peat have piqued your interest head on down to the Leviathan 1 Single Malt Whiskey review below for a deeper dive.

OVERALL
Leviathan 1 Single Malt Whiskey is… not something I enjoyed. I know Lost Spirits can make some delicious stuff, especially when it comes to rum, but their whiskeys, especially their early batches like this, always taste off to me. I will say the current Abomination red label isn’t terrible, but still not quite in the wheelhouse of something I’d reach for on a regular basis.

I’ve had the Leviathan 1 Single Malt Whiskey on several occasions, but this is the first time I’ve had a sample I could sit and take my time with, in my home, and review; what I can say about it is that it’s a bit aggressive, bitter and a has an overall characteristic of a brush fire. But like I said, things have gotten better for them since this one so keep that in mind when looking to taste some of their stuff.

SCORE: 75/100 (C)
