Le Grand Hotel Cannes has history, legacy and authenticity, a hotel originally built in 1862 and stood alongside La Malmaison a handsome white villa which was the home of the original owner, a building that is now owned by Cannes Municipality and known as Centre d’art La Malmaison.

In the 1960s the original hotel was demolished to give way to a 60’s styled hotel that had a complete refurbishment in 2007, bring Le Grand Hotel to a true 60’s retro look and feel to the inside. The wonderful Monsieur Hugues Raybaud Directeur of Le Grand Hotel, has over seen the transformations for 25 years, here is a hotelier who has a well respected reputation from his staff.

Then in 2009 Sébastien Broda took on the creative operations of Le Park 45 restaurant at Le Grand Hotel.  He won his first Michelin Star just a year after he arrived, a distinction he owes to his highly creative cuisine. Full credit goes to Sébastien,  his creative mind changes a new full menu every three weeks, as well as special weekly change to a lunch menu.

The enthusiastic team at Le Park 45 fully reflect Sébastien Broda’s kitchen with the arrival of each dish to your table, a passionate explanation on ingredients, as I experienced with one dish the server guided our eyes across the plate to note that the asparagus is controlled appellation, it is so fresh and green, then your server stands slightly away from the table to give some advice as to the best order to eat you dish, if you want to experience the flavors as they were meant to be experienced.

The music from the 60’s offers an upbeat lively a background to the comfortable retro design at Le Park 45, as each dish served is just full of surprises as the last. I believe  a memorable experience in dinning comes from the people who put everything together before you arrive, and then take you on the journey they had planned when putting their menu together, tasting it themselves and being passionate that you feel the same way they do.
