‘Video Games’ singer and internet sensation Lana Del Rey is facing a backlash after her performance on Saturday Night Live. Critics have lined up to slam LDR’s shaky singing ahead of the release of her first official album.

“Granted, the sound at SNL is famously bad, and Del Rey was visibly nervous, but still — the timid falsetto, shaky jumps between registers, that lip snarl”, said Amanda Dobbins at The New Yorker’s Vulture blog. Steven Hyden was similarly unimpressed at AV Club, writing that LDR was “moving rigidly about the stage in front of a terrifyingly professional band whose apparent readiness to tour the world behind the forthcoming Born To Die offered a stark contrast to the singer’s clear discomfort with performing.”

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, who appeared with Del Rey on SNL, defended the singer: “It was unfortunate that people seemed to turn on her so quickly… I also think people are making it about things other than the performance”, he said, reported the BBC.

Del Rey has already proved to be something of a Marmite singer, provoking fulsome praise from some quarters and rabid fury from others.
