L’Oreal has always offered me a very mixed experience. I generally see them as being overpriced, poor quality and ill-matching. However, the Matte Magique Soufflé foundation has slightly adjusted my opinion. See why…

This foundation was formerly called L’Oréal Paris Matte Morphose Foundation, so it isn’t actually a new product. It’s quite dissimilar to any other product I’ve tried, except perhaps Benefit’s Porefessional in terms of texture. It’s incredibly light and silky, soft and fluffy. Like its name suggests, this foundation is a similar to a soufflé because it’s velvety soft and has been combined with a light layer of air. This is good because it means it holds it shape, but also spreads incredibly well and easily. It doesn’t feel or look wet, but instead offers a matte finish which is usually only possible with a powder finish.

The foundation covers well, minimising pores instantly and providing an even finish. It’s light so it doesn’t suffocate the skin or clog up pores, but it does give a really good matte finish. Although it claims to be able to last for 12 hours, I haven’t found this. I’d say it only lasts about 2 to 3 hours on my T zone before being overtaken by my oily skin, but applying more of the soufflé foundation on top of my oily skin seems to cover it well. On the non-oily parts of my skin I would say that it lasts most of the day.

There are issues I have with this foundation though; it costs around £10.20 which I think is a lot for a a high street make up brand. Also, seeing as I have to reapply it a lot on my oily skin I’ve found that I’ve gone through the foundation incredibly quickly. If I had been using it every day as my main foundation then I doubt it would have lasted more than 4-6 weeks. the main thing that has stopped me from using it everyday is that the glass pot is incredibly heavy. I understand that this is probably to prevent the air from coming out of the foundation, but it’s a pain to carry around. As such I would recommend it if you plan to keep it at home, but not if you want to carry it around. Like most foundations, this is better for people who don’t have extremely oily skin…
