Much to the surprise of everyone who showed up in Cavendish, PEI today the weather was sunny and HOT. But in true east coast fashion, everyone was out and partying all day long in spite of being hot and sweaty.
While there was not a single cloud in sight all day long, the crowd kept themselves well hydrated, and took shade long enough to cool down, and get right back to dancing and singing along with every song no matter where they were in the massive venue.
The music today kicked off with local country girl Makayla Lynn, who hails from Chester, Nova Scotia, and while she may be young this marks Makayla's EIGHTH performance at Cavendish Beach Music Festival. All this experience shows when she takes the stage, even though early in the day she had the entire crowd standing and signing along with every song.
One thing I was not expecting when I woke up this morning was to see someone walk on the stage of a country festival wearing a peace sign necklace and round, yellow tinted sunglasses but Madeline Merlo pulled the look off flawlessly.
The crowd was really starting to grow mid afternoon around the time Canaan Smith took the stage to thousands of screaming fans, (a disproportionate amount of those screaming were teen girls for some reason) . Today we also had the opportunity to sit down with Canaan and talk about music, family, and who inspires his music, but we will have more on that later.
We had to make a quick exit from Canaan's performance because Billy Rae Cyrus was hitting the Cavendish Farms Kitchen Stage, and there was no way we were going to miss that. After spending about 10 minutes sitting on stage taking off his hat, scarf, and jacket, Billy Rae began to play to a totally packed house. Also for those wondering, Billy Ray Cyrus has got his mullet back.
KIP, KIP, KIP, was the only thing that could be heard before Kip Moore arrived on stage to close off day 2 of the festival, by this point the entire crowd is well hydrated and ready to dance, and Kip is not disappointing, the entire performance was incredibly high energy and made sure everyone was on their feet until the end of the last song.
