Kazu Maru IPA – Wheelhouse Brewing

By Mike @mikescraftbeer

From Wheelhouse Brewing in Prince Rupert comes their "Kazu Maru IPA". The beer pours a fairly hazy orange colour with a white head. The aroma consists of lots of fruit notes including citrus and grapefruit and floral hops. The flavour is of juicy citrus, grapefruit, stone fruit, earth, resin and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.7% with an IBU of 75. Its always nice to see a big fairly challenging IPA being made in the middle of nowhere!

Commercial Description: The fishing vessel Kazu Maru disappeared from the waters of Owase, Japan in 1985. A year and a half later it was found across the Pacific near Owase's sister city Prince Rupert. Here it was lovingly restored and honoured. To this day the boat sits in the park across the street from the brewery. This bold yet balanced IPA is a salute to those who have fallen in love with the sea, and who have given their life to it. Out of chaos comes beauty.
