Jumping On Joel ...

Now that the penny has finally dropped with us one Joel Compass, we can't seem to keep away from him. His latest single, Run, which was featured the other night by Zane Lowe as his "hottest record in the world right now", is just as impressive as Kiss Love Goodbye, which we featured last week, and is most definitely showcasing why this guy deserves the success he is finding.
Jumping On Joel ...It seems particularly obvious that Joel is coming to terms with the sort of music he wants to be making and is, therefore, coming off in such a better light than previously. This track is atmospheric, powerful and in so many more ways, enjoyable, than anything we had given a go before.
He begins with a layer of vocals set on the backdrop of a wonderfully built sound-wall. He soon comes in with the lead and, as always, his voice has that distinction which really does carry it all on through.
The lyrics seem a little deeper than before too, which is always going to be a bonus with us. He seems to really believe in the words he uses here and, despite venturing into falsetto territory, he still manages to carry it all through with conviction, honesty and power.
We think that, despite a year full of Rock bands, this is the sort of thing that is probably on the rise and it wouldn't shock us with his current tour schedule with Rudimental, if he were to be the new face and leader of the R'n'B movement.
There's a nostalgia to his music as if it were from a few years back when names like Mario Winans, Ashanti or Mario were in the game and we reckon this is exactly what the world needs at the moment to get us back in that frame of mind.
Paul.
