Not gonna lie - I totally forgot Jason Blum and his micro-budget production house Blumhouse is making the next movie. Heck, I forgot that Hollywood hadn't given up on the Halloween franchise entirely at this point. But in today's Hollywood IP is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good IP ever dies, no matter how many shitty sequels and/or reboots you trot out there.
So, in the August issue of Total Film Blum offered the following update on the forthcoming Halloween reboot from Danny McBride and David Gordon Green:
"I am a big believer that if you're a good filmmaker, you're a good filmmaker, no matter what genre. Danny and David fall into that. So we met with them for Halloween. They had a great take. John Caprenter blessed it. It was very important to me that John Carpenter remained a part of it, and he was excited about them. We're going to shoot in the fall."
Oh, btw, if you're wondering yes, we are talking about the same Danny McBride from Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals, and the same David Gordon Green who directed Pineapple Express, Your Highness, The Sitter, Mangelhorn and Our Brand Is Crisis. Horror experts, right? Maybe. We don't know. Who could have guessed that Jordan Peele secretly always wanted to be a horror movie director but had settle instead for sketch comedy until he got his shot with Get Out? Plus, after Rob Zombie came to his Halloween reboot with extreme love for the franchise but an inability to turn off his gnarly, redneck Rob Zombie filter fresh eyes are definitely called for.

"It's daunting, but that's what's fun about it. And also, expectations are all over the place. Are they going to mess it up? I like that challenge. We're going to try to put the company's DNA into Halloween - which is that it feels unique, that the performances are great, that the actors are unexpected. And, most of all, get behind David, who is a great, original, extremely talented filmmaker."

Jason Blum at least seems to be approaching it with a fairly level head, and the fact that his company is so successful already and doesn't really need to do this project is all the more encouraging. They wouldn't be taking on the risk if they didn't feel up to the challenge.
But, yeah, still hard to get excited for another Halloween movie. What do you think?
