Back in 2001, J Dilla decided to make an album with his favorite hip-hop producers, one of which was Supa Dave West. The album was never completed, but parts of it are slowly coming out, this time we get “The Doe,” the collaboration between the two producers that is the original version of “Give ‘Em What They Want.”

The track is from the Give ‘Em What They Want EP (released on Pay Jay Records), with six tracks produced in 2001-2002 by J Dilla and Supa Dave West that is available as the kick-ass clear vinyl above as well as in digital form. The EP has three vocal tracks (“The Doe” and “No One’s Home” were produced by West and recorded December 2001, while the title track is Jay Dee’s completely reworked version from September 2002) as well as two instrumentals.

Listen to “The Doe” below and go to Rappcats here for a short interview with West about his dealings with Dilla.
