Interview with Perth Champagne Club

By Foodie Cravings @foodiecravings

What I love most about food blogging besides the eating is the opportunity to meet like-minded foodies.

Over the years since starting foodie cravings, I’ve met some incredible chefs, entrepreneurs, food bloggers, journalists and pr/digital personalities. Some are now my closest friends, others I still work with in my other hat as a small business owner.

Nick of Perth Champagne Club is one of those incredible people. I had a coffee with him earlier this year after he got my attention with a bottle of champagne via foodie cravings. This led to a crust pizza & champagne pairing party on the astro turf of my Crust in Mount Lawley.

I did a little interview with Nick before flying out to Europe. Here’s a bit about Perth Champagne Club, how to best match pizza and champagne and his famous french bulldog Pierre Brando (@pierrebrando)…

Interview with Perth Champagne Club

What inspired you to start Perth Champagne Club? Was it always your full time gig?

It’s only been a fulltime gig since January this year, but has been running for a little over 2 years now. I started the business because I always wanted to have my own business and for that business to be hand in hand with a product or service that I’m passionate about. An online Champagne subscription service ticks both of those boxes.

What’s your favorite champagne and food pairing?

Champagne and seafood are a perfect match but more specifically, oysters natural with Champagne.

What tips do you have for those looking to match champagne to pizza?

Try and go for the lighter meats and sauces so rather than cured meats like pepperoni, look for chicken or more specifically, the Crust seafood pizza and BBQ chicken pizza would work well.

Is there anything you wouldn’t pair champagne with?

Steak!

On a completely different topic, who is Pierre Brando and how does he have a following of 61.4k???

Nick: Pierre is my partner Sarah & I’s French Bulldog, he’s about 2.5 years old and yes – he’s Instafamous, Sarah started the IG for a bit of fun but now he is a brand in and on his own with sponsorships from a number of local and global pet companies. We also have a 12 month old Frenchie named Remy who is completely obsessed with Pierre!

Sarah: I honestly started his page as he was taking over mine and now I rarely use my own!

I was so happy when he got 100 followers and still have the screenshot of it that I sent to Nick!

Getting to 1000 followers was easy and it’s just snowballed from there. People just LOVE his grumpy face but I like to think my hilarious captions help? He loves putting on clothes, posing and the attention but also sleep and food. I’d love for him to be as popular as @manny_the_frenchie…. One day!
