HTC Nexus 9 Image and Details Leak

Posted on the 23 June 2014 by Anna Peterson

We’ve heard a number of rumours about HTC working with Google on a new Nexus tablet for the past couple of months, and now we’ve got a list of specs, pricing info and the first image of the device. The tablet’s codename is HTC Volantis and it might be called the Nexus 9 when it launches.

Google’s upcoming tablet, the Nexus 9

The device’s got an 8.9in screen and a resolution of 2048 x 1440 pixels, with a pixel density of 281ppi. It looks like the tablet’s aspect ratio will be closer to iPad’s (4:3), than that of the other Nexus tablets (16:9).

The leaked specs and photo come from the folks at Android Police, who also created a render of the tablet (see the image below), and they say that the leak is very real and that the tablet’s hardware has already been seen inside Google. Naturally, some details may and will change before the tablet’s official release.

Android Police showed us how the tablet might look once it’s released.

Other Nexus 9 specs include Nvidia’s Tegra K1 64-bit chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera with OIS and a 3-megapixel front-facing shooter. The tablet will measure 226.3 x 151.9 x 7.9 mm and weigh 418g (Wi-Fi-only version) or 427g (4G LTE).

As for its price, the Wi-Fi versions will most likely cost $399/roughly £235 (16GB) and $499/roughly £290 (32GB), while the LTE versions will probably go over $600 (£350+). The Nexus 9 should be released with the next version of Android (5.0), which should be in Q4 2014 and not this week at Google’s I/O conference (June 25-26) as it was originally thought.

Having in mind the cancellation of the Nexus 6 in favour of the Android Silver project, we’d take any new rumours about Nexus devices with caution.
