How To Overcome FOMO on Social MediaSocial Media. Ahh yes. It has so many amazing qualities right? It has a way of connecting us with companies, brands and people we never thought we would ever be able to meet. It has us squealing over the latest gossip, our favorite celebrities and even blogger buddies.
Here's what happened to me the other night.
I was stressing out over a deadline I had for a campaign. I was also stressing about my Instagram photo. Ridiculous I know. Because I was stressed out, I began yelling at my kids. Then I was yelling at my husband. I ran down to gain some peace and quiet in our bedroom and then when my daughter came to say goodnight for bed, she quietly tip toed in, gave me a kiss on the cheek and said.. "I'll leave you alone Mama."
Right then and there I burst out crying.
Did I really just yell to everyone that are my biggest supports over...nothing? It was almost a moment for me to realize that if Social Media was gone tomorrow,  would I be happy with how my life is right now?
Am I living my best life right now? Am I enjoying the big moments as well as the small? Am I taking more time to work than I am for my family? We all attempt to balance everything as best we can. I'm not perfect by any means on this and I've been trying for years to attempt at making sure my family, my work and even myself's needs are met.
How To Overcome FOMO on Social Media
So how can you overcome FOMO on social media? Here are a few helpful ways that keep me at my best.
1. Only connect with inspiration - What drives you into the activities that give you joy? Who do you walk away from that leave you feeling motivated? We can all survive without certain things but affection is key. If you're scrolling, make sure you are only looking for inspiration for yourself in body and in mind.
2. Look Within Yourself - Instead of adding more people or new places to go, why not just stop and be quiet within ourselves. Be within the moment. What if for one second you weren't trying to solve this issue in this second? Just be for a few seconds to calm yourself.
3. Be There For Others - When we take attention off of ourselves and our personal problems we can gain so much in return by reaching out to others. Be there for someone who may be going through a difficult time or even just wave to a stranger. These small acts add up to so much more than we can imagine and it makes us feel good to do so.
4. Unplug - At times, taking a break is needed so unplug your phone. You can also take the time to look at how you use social media and prioritize your time to connect to those that inspire you to feel good about yourself, move you closer to your goals and keep you grounded in the process.
