If there is a big teddy or toy car in the corner, pillows, a box full of toys in the middle of the room, clothes (fresh or soiled) all over the bed, books, crayons, and a heap of minor stuff lying on the floor, it can cause a lot of mess.

1. Keep it simple

When thinking about decorating your kid’s room, you may have many ideas, but try to keep it as simple as possible because your child should not feel overwhelmed by too many things cluttered in their room. Avoid overdoing anything since their room is meant to be spacious and comfortable to enjoy spending time in. Too many objects around can confuse them, which isn’t a great feeling for your little one. Start with keeping unnecessary stuff out and focus on essential things your kid needs every day. Don’t forget to donate stuff that your child doesn’t need anymore for charity begins at home.

 2. Set up a cozy ambiance

A cozy, charming ambiance can make your child’s room dreamy and welcoming. One good idea is to be clever with the lighting in the room. For this, you may consider adding string lights instead of night lights. You may use string lights of any shape and size and create cool artworks or signs with them. You could make a star, moon, branch of a tree, ice cream, clouds, a cute cat, or even a bed canopy to add warmth to their room. As these lights tend to be versatile, they can be set up to match the room decor. The best part is, a cozy sleeping space will ensure your kid falls in love with the bed space and sleeps well.

 3. Keep cord outlets away from their reach

Wires running all around the bedroom is a strict no-no. Make sure all outlets run across the ceiling or high up on the wall so that your child cannot fidget with them. This will ensure a more organized space for your kid. You can use these wall outlets to run appliances or other electronic items and at the same time leave your kid alone in the room without worrying about their safety. Also, make sure to have these wires and outlets regularly checked to prevent accidents.

 4. Decorate to enhance good vibes

There are plenty of ways to decorate your child’s room. But make it a point to spend some time with your child to understand their likes and dislikes. Do they love a cartoon character, or are they neutral about what goes on the walls? In the latter case, you may use framed family photographs, paintings created by them, framed newborn footprints or handprints, or just printed wallpapers if you struggle to get extra creative. You could also place indoor plants neatly on the balcony or the windows and teach your child to take ownership and care about them. Use hooks and hangers to securely place caps, bags, raincoats, umbrellas, and keys for convenience.

 5. Manage the wardrobe neatly

Place a small bin or laundry basket to keep towels, socks, and used clothes. Keep the regular undergarments, summer clothes, winter garments, or costumes for special occasions or outings separately organized in different shelves or cabinets.

 6. Furniture arrangement is critical

Depending on your child’s age, design a customized bed. Ensure space under the bed to store bed sheets, pillows, and covers. Add floating shelves to hold small toys, accessories, stationery to add extra space on the floor. You may also opt for bunk beds or lofted beds to use vertical space well. This way, you’ll have plenty of room to add storage drawers and other hidden storage space. Display objects that your child is sentimentally attached to on high-up shelves or the top of tall furniture. Place toys that your child regularly plays with low so that they are easy to grab and, most importantly, help them get into the habit of putting them back when they’re done playing.

 7. Keep the colors neutral

Light colors like white and beige for wall paints and furniture can make your room look bigger. This also has the advantage of easily transitioning the same room into a teen’s or an adult’s room later. It will also save you some bucks since you won’t have to repaint the room every time. However, if that sounds boring, you can add pops of color or printed curtains and stick to decorations in your child’s favorite hues to have some visual depth in their space.
