Water + earth involves in kapha dosha (controls growth and protection)
In disorders, these three doshas imbalances to cause problems, individually or collectively.

Water retention is also happens due to imbalance in these doshas.

WATER RETENTION is a condition when there is an abrupt collection of fluid in the body tissues.

In general, fluid leaks normally in the body tissues from blood. A network of lymphatic tubes are there which take the fluid from the tissues and vacant it back into bloodstream. If there is any problem in this system, then this causes swelling of that particular area.

The problem of water retention can be of two types

First is if the swelling is all over in the body.
Or the swelling is in a specific area.

Why causes this water retention disorder?

General reasons can be

  • Hot weather
  • Burns like sunburn
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Oral contraceptive pills
    Pregnancy
  • Malnutrition - deficiency of vitamin B1, B6, B5 and albumins etc.
    Allergies
  • Medicines such as of blood pressure and NSAIDs etc.
    Medical circumstances
  • Imbalances in hormones that maintain the fluid imbalance in the body.
    Improper functioning of kidney
  • Heart problems as heart failure
  • Malignant lymphedema
  • Hypothyroidism

Water retention with the problem of swelling can also cause the problem of stiff joints, weight gain and ache in affected parts.

This disorder can be diagnosed through physical examination, blood test, liver, kidney function tests and urine tests.

How to get rid of water retention naturally

The problem of water retention can be cured naturally. Ayurveda has herbs that have great beneficial effect in its treatment.

Ayurveda's view point regarding water retention:

Water retention is known with the name of shotha or shopha in Ayurveda. InAyurveda it is due to evacuation of doshas. The vata, raktai.e. Blood, pitta and kapha get vitiated, lodged in veins and circulate throughout the body and cause the swelling problem.

Herbs present in nature that can heal the condition of water retention are:

Amalaki - this is known as amla fruit also. This fruit is enriched with vitamin C contents and helps to treat problems like weak immunity, hyperacidity and fluid accumulation and hence treats the problem of water retention.

Punarnava - this plant roots have properties like diuretic, anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling. This herb helps to treat the problems of heart, kidneys, anemia, obesity, stress and fluid retention.

Pippali - it is known as long pepper, have propertiesof rejuvenation. It treats the respiratory and digestive problems. This herbs is very effective in cases of cough, asthma, inflammation, swelling of joints and allergies. This shows fruitful effect against water retention.

Kush or Pushkarmool - a herb that have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, cardio protective, rejuvenating properties that helps to treat problems like cough, asthma, heart problems, swelling, blood pressure and inflammations etc. these functions of the herb help to treat water retention problem.

Varuna - This herb known to clear the obstruction in urinary tract and helps to remove excess fluid and toxins present. It helps to reduce swelling also.

2. TRINPANCHMOOL GHAN VATI

Dose - 1-2 tablets three time a day, after meal.

3. PUNARNAVA MANDUR TABLETS
