Homemade Almond Milk Recipe

Whether it’s a lactose intolerance or you’re going vegan, many people are on the lookout for plant-based milks as an alternative to cow’s milk. There are many options too, but almond milk seems to be the most popular of them. Maybe it’s the taste or because you can easily make homemade almond milk – but it sure is a winner!

We already know that almonds are a healthy snack so it goes on to say that almond milk is healthy too. Almond milk is a plant based milk derived from almonds. Store bought almond milk is easily available but has fillers and additives. Making almond milk at home is very easy and it also has a deliciously creamy and nutty flavor. The best part is that it is free from preservatives, and you can make it as sweet as you like by adding a natural sweetener!

Whether it's a lactose intolerance or you're going vegan, homemade almond milk is the perfect alternative to cow's milk!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almonds
  • 2 dates (optional)
  • 4 cups water

How to make Homemade almond milk?

Method:

1. Soak the almonds overnight in enough drinking water in a covered bowl.

2. Next day the almonds will get big in size, drain the water. Rinse the almonds 2-3 times in clean water.

3. Add the washed, drained almonds to a grinder jar with 2 deseeded dates (if using) and 4 cups of drinking water.

4. Pulse the mix to get the milk out of the almonds. Pulse until the almonds are crushed well.

5. Strain the mixture with a muslin cloth and extract all the almond milk. The part left in the muslin cloth is the almond meal. Spread the almond milk on a plate and after air drying for a few hours, microwave it to dry the powder. You can powder it again after drying and use this almond meal in crackers or in bakes.

6. Your creamy nutty delicious almond milk is ready to be served.

7. Refrigerate the leftover almond milk in a sealed container or jar up to 2 days.
